Theatre Career

I came to copywriting from a nontraditional background. My career started as a stage manager and then as a producer of theatrical shows. It took me all over the world and trained me how to develop a creative work. How to balance art and commerce. How to tell a story. How annoyingly sensitive writers can be. 

While working in London on West End shows, part of my job was to oversee the marketing of each show. Although I was client side, the agencies I worked with often liked my creative suggestions over their own, and eventually convinced me to switch over to their side. I started copywriting between producing shows and realized I would rather be a creative person in a business world than a business person in a creative world. A career was born. The lessons I learned in my first career have been a constant source of wisdom and inspiration in my current one. 

In 2011, I produced the off-West End premiere of the musical “Ragtime” which won the Offie Award, was nominated for WhatsOnStage and BroadwayWorld UK awards, and was named a Time Out Best of 2011. 

As Head of Production & Touring at London's Arden Entertainment, I worked on the Punchdrunk and Old Vic co-production “Tunnel 228”, a site-specific immersive show in abandoned tunnels underneath Waterloo Station. West End shows included "Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story Live On Stage” (Olivier Award), "Never Forget” and many regional and touring productions. 

On Broadway, I worked in the office of veteran producer Emmanuel Azenberg on Billy Joel and Twyla Tharp's “Movin’ Out” (Tony Award), “Mark Twain Tonight” starring Hal Holbrook and “The Odd Couple” starring Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick. 

While Associate Director of Operations at Live Nation's theatrical division, I represented the company for the US tours of "The Lion King", "The Producers", "Stomp", "Dora the Explorer" and also "Phantom: The Las Vegas Spectacular". 

Organizations I have worked with include Young Vic, Sadler’s Wells, Battersea Arts Centre, Trafalgar Studios, Arts Theatre, Theatre503, Rose Theatre Kingston, Landor Theatre, Boston Lyric Opera, Architecture Foundation, Flat Rock Playhouse, Jobsite Theater, New End Theatre, Opera Tampa, Boston Conservatory, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and Straz Center for the Performing Arts where I got my start. 

Most recently I served as Director of PR & Social Media for Flat Rock Playhouse, the State of North Carolina, to help them get out of a difficult organizational crisis. It was a passion project that I'm incredibly proud of.
