CLUBBED THUMB

In 2016, I joined the board of off-Broadway theatre company Clubbed Thumb. I am incredibly proud of being a tiny part of this wonderful organization.

Clubbed Thumb commissions, develops and produces funny, strange and provocative new plays by living American writers. Since its founding in 1996, the company has earned five Obies including the Ross Wetzsteon Award for sustained artistic excellence.

It is not just the best play to open so far this season on Broadway, but also the most important. Joy comes from watching an imaginative new kind of theater emerge.

Can a piece of theater make you better? After seeing this show, I believe so.

Experimental-theater perfection. It’s delicious to see a playwright binding genres so confidently...but the real pleasure is in how much Plano manages to bend how you perceive reality beyond the proscenium.

A smart, funny, poignant meditation on gender and historical memory, speaking as convincingly to our own time as any drama set in the present.

Surely the most likably idiosyncratic assortment of women gathered on a New York stage.
